Impact Food Partners with Oisix ra Daichi to Bring Plant-Based Seafood to Japan

Impact Food, a US food technology startup based in California, announces a partnership with Oisix ra daichi, a Japanese retail food leader that specializes in top quality food. Impact Food uses plant ingredients and innovative food science to develop delicious and nutritious alternative seafood products, starting with whole muscle cut sushi-grade tuna.

Japan ranks 4th in fish consumption worldwide with 23.4 kg (51.6 lbs) of seafood per person. Due to global overfishing, wild fisheries and aquaculture systems are unable to keep up with increasing demand for seafood.

On June 8th, Oisix ra daichi celebrated World Sea Day in Japan and showcased Impact Food’s plant-based sushi-grade tuna as a more sustainable way to meet seafood demand. This business collaboration will allow Impact Food to leverage Oisix ra daichi’s wide distribution network and promote alternative seafood as a more sustainable way to meet seafood demand in Japan. 

In a recent article by GFI APAC, saving the environment plays a major role in Japanese consumers’ decision to eat alternative seafood. 67% of consumers view reducing overfishing as the most important environmental driver, 63% find it important to save ocean habitats, and 61% care about reducing harm towards marine animals and reducing plastic waste in the ocean from fishing.
